Pictures of Village Games Grand Opening!
I recently wandered down to Village Games in Anoka, MN and talked with Carl
Hotchkiss, one of the owners. The store is on the second floor of a "Craft
Mall" pictured on the right. It is a great looking store located on Main
Street in down town Anoka (just north of the Twin Cities). The building they are
located in is a great old converted post office. This place has a lot of
character and when you first see it you get
that
feeling of stepping back in time. Conveniently sharing the space are a gift
shop, a sandwich shop and a number of other stores. Don't worry about space,
though, Village Games has plenty of it.
Village games carries a number of d20 RPGs (WOTC, Mongoose, Green Ronin, and to a lesser extent non-d20 RPGs (Hero, LOTR, HinterWelt). They support miniatures (mostly 40k and clcky games at this point) and board games (risk, . A good selection of CCGs including Magic, LOTR and Yugioh). As any game store does, they have the standard RPG accessories like dice and dice bags. In addition, they also sell a number of renaissance style games, candles, and craftwork. They are admittedly light on the levels of stock they are carrying but they have good breadth. They currently do not have any LAN. They plan on ramping up the stock in the time before the grand opening.
They have taken the approach of giving you the space to browse while having a wide selection. The decor is a renaissance market feel and re-enforces the back in time feeling. You can wander the books without feeling like you are going to knock something over or block the way for someone else due to the wide aisles and the friendly layout.
Gaming space is very generous as well allowing free movement without having
to ask people to move. Village Games has two gaming rooms and a table
in
the main room. These are some gaming rooms I look forward to playing in. The
windows are the clincher! Windows and natural light makes this a delightful
space to spend a brisk winter afternoon without having to face the elements.
They have a special membership club that allows a number of privileges including discounts, special tournaments and email bulletins.
They are going to have their grand opening on November 1, 2003 and it sounds
like it will be a lot of fun with CCG tournaments all day, clix games and hot
cider!
I believe that this store is off to a strong start and suggest anyone in the area to take a ride out to Anoka and check them out.
