So, I am not a fan of traditional tech levels. The idea of grouping similar advancements together seems artificial to me. Yeah, I know, it is only supposed to be a suggestion but in my usual manner, I am looking to refine it. So: 1. Divide tech level up into areas of advancement.
Looking at TL as independent advancement and yet having related disciplines could be tough. Let's look.
Off the top of my head, the general areas could be: Law Medicine Engineering Sciences Social Engineering Economics ???? Profit!
Any others? I am concerned that Engineering and Sciences may be too broad to be useful.
2. Dependencies/Sub categories
Here we can take the idea that you cannot have advanced Engineering without advanced Science. You could have advanced Law with out any science or engineering but it would affect your Social Engineering. So, group them so: Law : Social Engineering Medicine : Science Engineering : Science Economics : Social Engineering ???? : Profits
Where X : Y means that X cannot exceed : Y TL.
3. Re-imagining TL numbers
Here, I am not sure. I am thinking something more descriptive than just 1-X. More a type of numeration that will allow for compact information that is meaningful Suggestions are welcome and maybe the real one here is "Stick with a numbered progression you weenie".
Thoughts?
