This is mostly a fun project for me. I wanted to discuss if folks thought there is a place for such a game in the market and more to the point, in the hobby. Some points I have worked up:

- Play only humans
- Based on a mix of historical Charlemagne and Tales of Charlemagne
- Magic will be free form
- Christianity will be portrayed both as good and evil, Saracens as both good and evil
- Rules for the system (Iridium Lite) will be about 6-10 pages
- "Classes" will be Knight, Sorcerer, Priest, Scout, ????
- Custom rules additions for creating magic items, steeds, monsters
- I am hoping for a 12.99 price point, digest size

That is what I am thinking of. I had a guy call me the other day and got me gabbing about Chevalier and Roma and it got me interested in this.

So, viable? Thoughts on what you would like to see in such a game?

Not sure to be honest, I would lean towards having other races in most fantasy games but this would (as with many of your fine games :D ) make it distinctive and stand out

I dont know what 'free form' magic is but I am glad you are keeping magic in there

Charlamagne sounds interesting, altho I know nothing about it save the old AD&D book title,
so I am guessing all the PC's play knights or Paladins?!? (oh duh, just read your class list  )

Roma is great so this could be too, only more 'medieval'

intriguing

The free form magic is a type of magic in Iridium (and also Iridium Lite). Essentially, you make two stat checks usually WIS to see if the power works and CON to see if you take damage. The mor eyou use your powere the more likely failure is to occur. We use this for Psi in Neb, Shamans in Shades, Mystics and Clerics in Tales and Shamans and Druids in Roma. Fairly common tool of Iridium.

I think Chevalier has potential as we should be able to make it Squirrel Attack like in form and price.

Frankly, I'm surprised you haven't already released it. I played it with you a few years ago and liked it then. You've refined your Lite rules since then, so I don't see what the problem is. As far as the "market" is concerned, it will always be fickle. You'll never know until you try. Does it have a place in the Hobby? Yes, I believe it does. How many Lite Fantasy (system) games are there? I can't think of any. Fantasy rules seem to compete with each other over their complexity! There may well be a conciderable niche for such a game. Maybe send a few copies out to local shops for a test run. If they ask for more, you have your answer. But that's hit and miss as well.

Well, first off, I need to write it (as in clean it up). I have a good chunk of it down but some parts need to be filled in including background, game hooks, example characters and the like. So, maybe anothe couple of weeks of writing, then some editing, maybe some art commissioning.

Second, Scott, I do not seem to have an address for you. Could you eamil me a mailing address so I can get you some Squirrel Attack! the Dice Game to play test? bilbo AT hinterwelt DOT com

Thanks!
Bill

Yeah, good points, a lite system would be a good angle
the only other 'fantasy lite' I can think of is T&T
and if you emulate the Classics you cant be doing much wrong 8)

The magic system sounds good
I havent really got into the Iridium system properly as other stuff gets in the way
I never seem to get around to doing everything I want to do, life just keeps on rolling
and sweeps you along in its wake
