Hi Bill!

I was just wondering what was next for HinterWelt? The Release Schedule is not that up-to-date. Chevalier is intriging, as is the Britannia supplement. Can you give us details about these releases? Is there something else coming from HinterWelt in a relatively close future?

Also, giving the revision of the system for the second edition, are you going to republish every settings? I know you're doing Nebuleon, but what about the others? Is there a new setting on the way?

Finally, about V2 : how's it going? Do you have new crunchy bits about it's development for us?

That's a lot of questions, but you get the gist : What going on at HinterWelt?

I hopefully will be releasing Squirrels In Space: The Squirrel Cage tonight. Then, I have been working on both Nebuleon V2, Britannia and Animal Farm: Nutsky Strikes Back at the same time. So, the plan is Release the V2 Core rules, Neb V2 or (Linda wants this first) Britannia. The real question is do we release Britannia as V2 or V1?

Yeah, accursed release schedule. I should take all the dates down and give more of a "this is the order I am working on it" instead.

Chevalier: This is going well. It has a very cool stand alone mechanic for generating monsters, magic items and a pseudo XP system for advancing things like magic items. Setting wise it will be a cross between Charlemagne's rule and the Tales of Charlemagne. A magic fantasy world set in medieval Europe. Yeah, it has been done but I just love the Tales of Charlemagne that much. ;) This really is pretty close. I am torn between going full bore on this book and making it a cheapy version like Squirrel Attack!. With the latter, you could get an entire game for, say, $12.99 USD and that could be very cool.

Britannia has had craploads of research so it moves slow. I will say that it is rapidly approaching done. The big one will be all the maps. I have the Hibernia section done with references to Ogham and the entire alt-timeline of the Romans invading and the "Hybernian Gods" fighting them. I will have a series of magic, monsters, adventures and a few other bits and pieces in here. The big hold up for this might be the V2 or V1 question. One thought is do both but that would take time too. I can't imagine this will be released this year. I am hoping for early next.

I have a whole bank of ideas like Echoes and a number of squirrel books (they sell). i also want to do a Nebuleon True20. In the hopper are conversions for all the core rules to V2 with the possible exception of Tales. I may rework that title entirely or just leave it. That is a question for folks who have seen it. Should we redo ToG for V2?

I have Tern: Planetary System Guide that is growing out of control for Nebuleon. Source book detailing the Tern System controlled by the Grou-Lynn Empire. If it ever gets released it will be plenty cool.

See above. I would love to do Future Skein in V2 as I think it would be a great fit. Think Post Apocalyptic but the robots win. I do not even have an outline for this one but I have talked it over like crazy. Truly cool stuff.

Here is a revised rough draft: Iridium V2.
Let me know what you think. Editorial comments welcome too.

V2 Character Sheet

Mostly I am trying to balance updating Iridium with getting some titles out.

Hope that helps!

Thanks,
Bill

Thanks a LOT, Bill. That's quite an update!

Personaly, I'm looking forward to Echoes and I'm really curious about Chevalier. Didn't you talked somewhere about making Chevalier a boxed game, like the old TSR settings? That would be sooooo cool! The books and box could be Squirrel-sized and you could include a GM screen and dice... 8) Look at me, rambling on...

Where did I see something about Echoes? It is a game of modern horror, isn't it? I swear I saw a publicity somewhere? At the back of some of your games? Am I thinking about the wrong game here?

 [has an idea and makes a quick search]

AH! Found it on the forums. I knew I saw a cover picture. Anyway, re-reading the threads only made me wanting for more. This is an great concept and it should be materialized in the reality right away. :D

Thanks again.

I am tempted with making Chevalier a box set but that can be an expensive proposition. I would most likely stuff it with maps as that is what I always liked about boxed sets back in the day but I would also consider a dice set and GM Screen (although i am always stuck on what should go on one for Iridium).

Yeah, I like Echoes also. I think it has some great potential. Unfortunately, there are only so many hours in a day. :(

I think ToG would benefit from an alteration of it's magic system. Those of us who have played it extensively, still don't use the minor spell realms. So I'm thinking if you re-formed the magic more Roma style, with only one system for realms magic, then it would get played more. Perhaps, even have maps for the whole world, so you would have room to do expansions for each continent in the future? In the mean time GM's could make up their own nations to inhabit the rest of the world. I think you could sell a revamped ToG for V2. I always liked the setting and races of ToG, and would love to see it reworked for V2 (which looks pretty good to me).

Yeah, I would go for a rework on Tales. The problem is I wonder if it is just too vanilla for the market nowadays. I almost think Chevalier might handle it better. I wont rule it out but it is definitely low game on the totem.

Glad to hear that you are moving ahead in those difficult economic climes
more power to your elbow :D

the box set idea sounds cool, a return to the golden days of yore when all games were boxed sets
(or if not we didnt think they were any good :D )

custom dice are always cool 8) 8) 8)

but you have to count me out money wise I'm afraid
went to the Citizens Advice Bureau yesterday just to get the banks off my back
guess what? I t actually worked!!! :D

Still skint and paying the bank back, but hey, at least I am back on track

dont know what any of that had to do with gaming but I had to get it off my chest :)

Not a problem Alan. I hope things work out for you.

As to HinterWelt, yeah, we are stable with profits in the bank and chugging along alright. We just worked through a snag with a printer who went bankrupt and shorted us on some books (Roma Ture20) and now I need to find a new printer. Grr.

So, if you guys had to pick one, which should I focus on?
-Neb V2
-Britannia
-Chevalier
-Tern System
-Future Skein
-Echoes
-Something else I did not list

Thanks,
Bill

If I had to choose one, I would go for Echoes. I'm just that curious about it.

Then I would list Chevalier and Neb v2 as games I'd like to see soon.

For Chevalier, should it be Iridium V2 or Iridium Lite? I was torn when it was IL or V1 but now I really am having problems as the more I play V2 the more I like it.

If you want to go for something not TOO expensive, you should go for a squirrel-sized version with Iridium Lite. With a squirrel-sized screen, squirrel-sized box and... squirrel-sized dice, why not!!! 8) You could include more than one die of each type, since Iridium demands a lot of dice. The box could be a "deluxe" version, with the basic book available on it's own for less fortunate or less interested gamers (or for the players, since they don't need the screen and all).

But let me get something straight : Iridium, Lite or not, is going on V2, right? I mean, you have a Lite V2 on the forums that is pretty good. That's what I would include with Chevalier. The Lite V2 with roll-over mechanics.

Yeah, it would be all be V2.

Alan, your opinion counts as much as anyones. If you are a gamer I want to hear from you. Buying the game is secondary (nice, but secondary ;) )

I would like to see Chevalier. It could be your showcase V2 Fantasy game. I'm still patiently waiting for Future Skein as well.

Aww shucks, I'm all embarrassed now :P
thanks for that Bill, much appreciated

I liked what was said about "Squirrel" editions, you could make it come in a "Munchkin" sized box (kind of harkens back to White Box D&D that I guess, although that was somewhat before my time, I was only 5 when it came out  )
