Greetings all, this is Mike from the MU SKULLS. Just want to say thankyou to all the great players at the con. You guys were wunderbar! It was nice to have full tables of nice people with great roleplaying skills. Hope you had as much fun with "Sweet Mystery of Life" as I did.

My favorite SHADES OF EARTH qoute from GenCon 2009: "Don't stop shooting till all the children are dead!- - maybe I shouldn't have yelled that."

You can look forward to more of Hinterwelt's games being run by the Skulls at "Marmdawg" in K'zoo, "Who's Yer Con" in Indy, and of course. . . The Skulls are already making great plans for GenCon Indy 2010 with more Shades of Earth, Roma Imperious, and Nebuleon.

See ya at the table,

Mike Noorman
MU SKULLS

Thanks for running Shades Mike!!! Much appreciated. Any comments you want to share?

For some reason Shades seems to bring those kinds of exclamations out of players and GMs.

Things went great. Most of the players are Call of Cthulhu BRPers (Basic Roleplaying System) so within the first five minutes they had a good grasp of the basics of the Iridium system. Then we dealt with more specifics rules as they popped up in the scenario. As Skulls, we have found that people tend to remember the rules better as they play them out - instead of "teaching" them. We try to make sure that each scenario at some point demonstrates the unique aspects of the system and setting.

Most found the system to be "intuitive," "inobtrusive," and "lies under the the storyline, so it doesn't get in the way." Other highlights were the ease of the magic system, combat hit locations and the "Battletech style of transfering damage."

People enjoyed the setting - as most of them were familiar with Cthulhu and the 1920's, it is easier for them to slip into the SoE world compared to those with a strictly fantasy background. Many appreciated that SoE is situated between the two world wars - a period that can be very rich for espionage and archaeology.

People were very happy when they left the table.

Had to cut and run there. . .

Some had mentioned that they like the SoE setting because of the ease in keeping the characters invoved in a campaign: all are part of an organization in direct competion with other factions (Axis, Jade, etc) and while mysteries and the weird exists you are not constantly dealing with the amorpheus ambiguities of the Cthulhu Mythos. They also liked that they could bring this right into the war years. . .

Many smiles. . .

One more game quote:

PC: What's this child's name?
NPC: What's the number tatooed on his foot? (looks at foot) Ah, yes. . . that would be XR-15.
PC: XR-15? Well, what's his name?
NPC: If you would excuse me for just a few minutes, I shall consult the records. . .
PC: Wait a minute. . .XR-15? What kind of $&%$$% orphanage is this?

Thanks for the feedback. I am always interested in what folks who play Iridium and the settings think.
